It’s my birthday

Today is my birthday…

I started off the day with a wonderful “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” from my husband and then my son…

My son then informed me that he needed to stay home from school with me for my birthday… and that since I watched him get his new belt in testing last night.. that he needed to sit and watch me get my belt this morning… (I did get my new belt, btw – it was fun! :))

As cute as that was… and it was…  he went to school…

My mom picked him up at 11:30 (actual let out time for VPK) and took him to get my present…  I told her he could get me a travel coffee mug – I use those a LOT…

So they come home.. and he hands me a dozen roses…  AWWWWW…

Mom said she tried to get him to buy the pretty sunflowers, but he said ‘NO, he wanted me to have those’ – how freaking awesome is that?

So he picked out a pink travel mug… it HAD to be pink he said – and he also bought me some Junior Mints – my favorite… (at my mom’s bidding I’m sure) – so when I opened them, he tried one and said, “mmm… minty” (Have I mentioned lately how awesome he is?)

Hubby’s gift to me, by the way, was a request from me (don’t ask)… and that he has to take me to see Sex and the City 2 this weekend (can’t wait).

I have had an awesome birthday so far…  I know tonight will be just as good!  I am truly blessed I tell ya!

Bedtime

So, for three weeks now, we have been implementing this new bedtime routine for our son.  I actually cannot describe how well it has been working!

We have been turning off all stimulation at 7:00 (TV, computer, DS System, Wii, etc…)  – bath time and into pajamas.  Reading time comes next.  I cannot tell you how fun reading time has been.  He is SO inquisitive…  Asks what everything is on the page… soo cute.

At 8:00, lights go out and usually by 8:30 he is asleep – most of the time he has fallen asleep by 8:10 or 8:15. My husband and I have been taking turns on who will stay upstairs with him until he falls asleep…

This is an amazing accomplishment.  Only a month ago, we were struggling with bedtime.  sometimes until 11 pm! So there really are not words to describe how great this is!

So as an example of how my son makes me laugh – here is what happened tonight.  He decided he wanted to sleep on the top bunk again, so I just stood down by the bed.  He drifts off to sleep and then jerked awake again.  so I walked over to him where he said to me “Momma, I am very tired.  Can you please go downstairs now so I can go to sleep.”  I just said, “Of course I can.  Good night.”  Then he said “Good night Momma”

How cute is he…. really!?! 🙂

Favorite sayings from my son

Remember – he is 3…  🙂

1. cutest as learning logic: “Ok mommy, you have 2 choices.  Jump off the side of the pool or go inside and dry off and stay out of the pool” me: “ok I choose to go inside and stay out of the pool”. Son :”No, that option is gone. You have one option.”  oh made me LAUGH!

2.  one that makes me realize I need to watch my mouth:  (He uses hand gestures to emphasize) “Mommy, we don’t say bad words, or baby words.  Stupid is a bad word and you don’t say God-damn-it” me: “UH, yeah, you’re right sweetie, we don’t say those words, so let’s try not to even say them when we explain!” Son: “ok mommy, so you won’t say that anymore?”

random ones:

3. “Mommy, my TV is jacked up”

4. “Mommy, can we do the hokey pokey and turn our socks around”?

5. “Mommy, why are you always on the computer”

6.  “Mommy, Daddy said I was being naughty”

7. “Daddy, Mommy said you were being silly”

8. Me: ” you are in trouble, so I am putting your cars in time out” Son: “oh ok, but can you put my puzzles in time out instead? McQueen wants to stay with me.”

9.  “Mommy, why did you yell at that car?  Can they hear you?”  (ooopps!)

10.  and  my ABSOLUTE favorite : ‘I love that you are my mommy‘ 🙂
